Latest Customer Quilts

Good Thursday to you all,
I thought I would share a couple of customer quilts I have been working on. These three are all very different.

I am getting super excited. In just another 2 weeks I will be closing the daycare and moving to full time quilting at the shop, I am so excited, yes so nervous! If you live in the Tri-Cities stop on by and see me anytime after the 11th of June!

Ok now for the pictures....

Cathy's car quilt for her husband Wayne. He LOVED it!!!

One of the car blocks. This quilt was so much fun!

The whole quilt, well almost this is a queen size.

The back, the classic cars are from Meadowlyon designs, I traced and flipped the cars so I could place them exactly where I wanted them in the large open spaces and could make them facing either direction. Each car (there are 8 or 9 total) is 12-13 inches long and 6 high.

This was a real quick rush job that I squeezed in for Dottie. It is for her friend who is undergoing chemo right now. Just a simple jelly roll strip quilt. She just wanted a all over meander. Well, I loved the colors and fabrics so I called and ask if I could add a butterfly in the center. this is it.

Liked the center butterfly so much that I sneaked one into each corner too. So glad I did!

This is the whole quilt.

Terra made this one. She is hoping to sell it at an upcoming show. Just did a simple over all panto.

I think this is her own design!

A close up of the swirl panto.
Hoping that soon I will get back onto a more routine blogger schedule. Just a FEW MORE WEEKS!!!! Yup I am shouting with joy!

Thanks for stopping by,

Torrie's Senior Prom

In my last post I shared with you Torrie's prom dress. Well prom went wonderfully, well except the part when Garret came to pick her up and our dog got a little freaked out and decided she was NOT going to prom with The Boy. So he decided to show Garrett who was boss and MARKED Torrie as HIS! Yup you read that right. He lifted his little doggy leg and peed on her!Yes he is still alive, mainly because we were to concerned about cleaning the dress to kill the dog!!!

So, that's her prom story! Now for photos.....
The Hair

Just moments Before the dog did the Deed.

Shortly after... the look on her face says it all.

That is a lot of work!

Showing off the shoes.

No MORE pictures MOM!!!

Just having fun!

Close up of the quilting and crystals

The back

Another closeup of the quilting.

The Red Dress Girls. Out of 8 friends, 5 wore red, not planned or anything!
Garrett and Torrie

So, that was prom, they had a lot of fun!

Now for something a little bit different.

Today I thought I would share with you something a little bit different. My oldest daughter had prom this Saturday and the darling girl actually agreed to allow myself and my dear friend Annie to make her dress, but not just any prom dress mind you... but a QUILTED prom dress!!!

Now she did have one stipulation, if she didn't like the dress she would be allowed to purchase a dress to wear to prom, I agreed because after all, it is her senior prom, her last one. The one that MATTERS!

Now my first disclaimer is this I CAN NOT and DO NOT sew clothing, Oh hell no! But I am lucky enough that my friend Annie just happens to be an excellent seamstress! So she handled the construction phase, while I did the actual quilting and crystallizing of the dress. And like a dummy I didn't get a single shot of the dress on the frame!

Instead I have these photos to share, No mind you prom is not for a couple of days, these are of Torrie this evening after a day in outside in the rain taking photos for her school....

This is a close up of the bodice area before the crystals were put on. You can see the quilting fairly well in this shot, but it really doesn't do much for the dress....
This is my lovely daughter, like I said she spent all day in the rain taking photos for yearbook! I will post better pictures after Prom!
This is the quilting down the thigh, it tapers off at the knee, it is the same floral design as the bodice.
This is the bodice, filled out and with crystals, I had to be very careful of the floral placement when stitching this... did not want any awkward flower centers....

And the back, the band is quilted as well as the straps.

Oh and the good news, she loves it!
Thanks for stopping by today...

Show and Tell

Spring! It is finally spring in these parts! That means rain, more rain, then wind, lots and lots of wind and occasionally the sun comes out then goes away! I am so happy it is spring! I have not had time to work in the garden though. I have been having a blast working on customer quilts, going to the quilt show and enjoying my birthday. Oh and a trip to Seattle to the University of Washington Campus where my oldest will be attending collage in the fall!

The cherry trees were in full bloom and it was an amazing day!
This is Delores's quilt, she wanted simple quilting on it so I did a stitch in the ditch around the stars then a simple loops and stars in the log cabin. She was very happy. Sometimes even though we may think a quilt needs lots of quilting. To match the customers budget we go simple. And in this case simple was great for this quilt!
Janelle's baby quilt. This was for a co-workers baby. Again budget said meander. So meander I did!
Another of Janelle's quilts. For another co-workers baby... I am thinking I am glad I don't work there because the is SOMETHING in the water!!! Again, budget said meander. Both quilts turned out lovely!
This is Terra's Lonestar. I love quilting for Terra. Her quilts are always pieced perfectly flat, oh my she has the flattest seams I have ever seen! I got to have fun with this one, did not go completely crazy because as with all my customer quilts last week. Budget played a roll. I did enjoy working on the feathers because I got to use my new LED black lights. That white thread just glowed. Never has quilting white on white been so easy!
The first feather I did I used a blue pounce.. you can still see a tint of blue.
This one was done freehand, again with the over head lights off and my black lights on. I could have a lot of fun with that!
So, after finishing those four quilts I decided it was time to work on one of my own. This quilt is for a contest... and Yes it is another Peacock quilt~
Lot and lot of tiny blocks and metallic thread...

Oh and to not forget my birthday.. Torrie made me a sign to go over the door to my sewing room. Although she did ask me if I could feather the hearts. I think I will do that this weekend so we can get it hung!

Well, that's all the show and tell for this week.
I have more coming soon!

Sometimes time just gets away from me. Part 2

Now for Part 2 (scroll down to read part 1)

Peacocks, I sure do love that peacock fabric! So does my friend Terra! She made a lovely peacock quilt and after seeing mine ask if I would quilt hers!

Busy at work! Did I ever mention that I love my Crown Jewel! If not, I just thought I would say, I LOVE my Crown Jewel!
We decided that tone on tone was best for this quilt, so it is actually really hard to see the actual quilting. In this case it was the perfect choice. The fabric is so beautiful that I hate to distract from it.
I quilted the back ground in a simple curling echo fill, and the tail feathers are outlined in gold metallic.

These long strips were done stitch in the ditch on the squares and then I did a petal pattern that mirrors the border design on the setting triangles. Really very simple quilting, not over the top. Like I said I wanted to keep the quilting understated.

And the finished quilt, Terra does beautiful work!

My other project I have been working on is actually one of my own. In June when I move my business over to the shop I want to have a sign to hang above my longarm. So I made a HUGE version of my logo in fabric, then used it as a quilting sampler.

This is the finished sign. I am so happy with how it turned out. Keep looking down to see the details of the quilting.

This one shows Echo Puzzle Fill. I love this as a back ground filler, so much more fun than a basic meander/stipple. Plus it can be sized up or down!
This one is called Ribbon Candy. It makes the best sashing/border design.
 Pebbles and Ripples.
OK, so I loved the feather with the glitter thread, then I washed the quilt and got this lovely wrinkle right in the middle. I think it is due to the applique glue I had to use, it was suppose to wash out and didn't. I don't think I will use that glue again.
This is another fill design, called Bread Basket.
Now for some feathering, this is just a simple hooked feather.
a bit of McTavishing, this creates nice texture and give such a feeling of movement. You can see this again below in the black background of the quilt.
Just a straight, formal feather. No frills on this one.
Texture quilting. I tried to make this look like the hill (Candy Mountain) to the south of my house. Yup I nailed it!)
Curls in the banner area, these mimic the curling design in the fabric.
More McTavishing. This was done quite a bit larger than in the sun ray.
A leafy feather. I wish it showed up a bit better. This is becoming one of my favorite feathers. Very Floral in feel.

And last but not least a curling feather! I like the fun looking aspect of this feather. I is pretty but does not take it's self to seriously!

Well if you managed to make it to the end, I thank you!
And you get a special treat for your efforts... My birthday in in two weeks. I will be announcing a birthday give away between now and then...

Happy Quilting,
Ginny
