Sometimes time just gets away from me. Part 2

Now for Part 2 (scroll down to read part 1)

Peacocks, I sure do love that peacock fabric! So does my friend Terra! She made a lovely peacock quilt and after seeing mine ask if I would quilt hers!

Busy at work! Did I ever mention that I love my Crown Jewel! If not, I just thought I would say, I LOVE my Crown Jewel!
We decided that tone on tone was best for this quilt, so it is actually really hard to see the actual quilting. In this case it was the perfect choice. The fabric is so beautiful that I hate to distract from it.
I quilted the back ground in a simple curling echo fill, and the tail feathers are outlined in gold metallic.

These long strips were done stitch in the ditch on the squares and then I did a petal pattern that mirrors the border design on the setting triangles. Really very simple quilting, not over the top. Like I said I wanted to keep the quilting understated.

And the finished quilt, Terra does beautiful work!

My other project I have been working on is actually one of my own. In June when I move my business over to the shop I want to have a sign to hang above my longarm. So I made a HUGE version of my logo in fabric, then used it as a quilting sampler.

This is the finished sign. I am so happy with how it turned out. Keep looking down to see the details of the quilting.

This one shows Echo Puzzle Fill. I love this as a back ground filler, so much more fun than a basic meander/stipple. Plus it can be sized up or down!
This one is called Ribbon Candy. It makes the best sashing/border design.
 Pebbles and Ripples.
OK, so I loved the feather with the glitter thread, then I washed the quilt and got this lovely wrinkle right in the middle. I think it is due to the applique glue I had to use, it was suppose to wash out and didn't. I don't think I will use that glue again.
This is another fill design, called Bread Basket.
Now for some feathering, this is just a simple hooked feather.
a bit of McTavishing, this creates nice texture and give such a feeling of movement. You can see this again below in the black background of the quilt.
Just a straight, formal feather. No frills on this one.
Texture quilting. I tried to make this look like the hill (Candy Mountain) to the south of my house. Yup I nailed it!)
Curls in the banner area, these mimic the curling design in the fabric.
More McTavishing. This was done quite a bit larger than in the sun ray.
A leafy feather. I wish it showed up a bit better. This is becoming one of my favorite feathers. Very Floral in feel.

And last but not least a curling feather! I like the fun looking aspect of this feather. I is pretty but does not take it's self to seriously!

Well if you managed to make it to the end, I thank you!
And you get a special treat for your efforts... My birthday in in two weeks. I will be announcing a birthday give away between now and then...

Happy Quilting,
Ginny

Sometimes time just gets away from me. Part 1

And boy oh boy is this one of those times. I cannot believe how busy the last month has been!

We did get all of the Boy Scout quilts done! And they are wonderful.

I have been stitching my arms off both on customer quilts and on a couple of my owns, I will post some pictures for you to enjoy below.

The best news I have this week though comes from something totally non quilt related. My oldest daughter has been working hard and getting ready for collage, she only applied to two schools. And was immediately accepted into one of them. Alas, not her first choice. We have been waiting months and months (feels like years really) for the admissions letters to come out for her first choice school. Well yesterday was the day! And she go in!!!! We have been doing a bit of a happy dance and as you can imagine we are totally thrilled with her acceptance into the University of Washington! This is a HARD school to get into! Yep I am one proud Momma!
Thanks for letting me share! Now you can enjoy some what has been keeping me so busy.

These three quilts were for a customer, they are her "cabin" quilts, all flannel and oh so soft!
This is the back, each quilt was quilted in moose and bears! They turned out really great!
A Queen size trip around the world!
 More Moose and Bears!
As you can tell it was the perfect pattern for these quilts. I had a lot of fun quilting these, but three large quilts with the same pattern, I started seeing moose in my sleep!

This sweet little disappearing nine patch was made by a male customer. Nicest man! This is for his grand baby, so we quilted it with "Hearts A Flutter" I love how it turned out.

Yellows and greens, I don't work a lot in this color range so panicked a bit when I saw it, was not sure I had a thread that would work. Well thanks to Superior Threads and their thread of the month club I actually DID have the perfect thread, just days before quilting this I got my order in and they sent me a yellow and green variegated King Tut! It looked like it had been made with this quilt in mind!

So that is half of what I have been working on this last month. I will break this down into two posts due to the number of pictures I am going to post... stay tuned for more!

A Giveaway? and a Rather Pretty Quilt.

Finished this customer quilt the other day. I really like the colors so I thought I would share.

Speaking of sharing, I have been thinking of ways to promote my blog. I have noticed out on blog-land that if one wants to promote a blog a giveaway is often done.
I am seriously considering doing a giveaway.... But what to give? I could do something boring and traditional and give away fabric, some cute charm pack or maybe a cool new tool? Or the a thought that has been rattling around in my little brain, what do you all think of my giving away my services...I mean after all I am trying to promote my business, so maybe the the giveaway could be two fold, grand prize being I quilt the winners quilt for free. Second winner would get a cute little charm pack... What do you all think? I would really like some feed back. Would you the reader like to win free quilting on a quilt? Or would you all rather a more traditional giveaway. Please leave a comment below and I will come up with a plan!
Thanks so much,
Ginny

Last of the Eagle Scout Quilts done! And a New Little Wall Hanging.

Last night was a good night! One of the Boy Scout dads came over and volunteered to quilt the last Eagle Scout quilts! Officially they are all quilted now just the binding to go!
This little quilt was one I pieced last year as a mystery quilt. I was not very fond of this quilt so I never did anything with it. Well today I got a phone call from the lady who runs our longarm group asking me to bring a quilt to our meeting tomorrow so one of the ladies can demo how to attach binding on the longarm. I grabbed this one out of the pile and quilted it up. I have to say I am please with how it turned out. I don't think this will ever be a favorite of mine, but it does prove the saying that sometime the quilting makes the quilt!

Thanks for stopping by to day,
Happy quilting,
Ginny

To Busy to Blog Part 1

Garrett supervising!
So my blogging as been a bit slow, I have been a busy busy girl! A while ago I told you all about Garrett's Eagle Scout project. Well we thought we were down to the just two quilts to go and then two lovely ladies donated more quilts! So I have been working on getting the last few quilts finished. We need to have them all quilted, bound and labeled by Feb. 21st! The funnest bit has been the other boys in Garrett's troop have been coming over to quilt! Check it out!!
One of the dads was so intrigued by the process that he just had to give it a go himself!
Garrett hard at work! I think he was actually talking to one of the guys setting up another evening of quilting.
This was on another evening, if all goes well we will have one troop member over every night this week to finish the last of the quilts. I give these young men full credit they jumped right in and did it with good cheer!
These two, Matt and David decided that quilting should be an Olympic event! They were very proud of the quilts they completed!
I was pretty proud of them too.
Thank you guys!

Now scroll on down to busy blogger part 2...

To Busy to Blog Part 2

 ...Busy Blogger Part 2

The boy scouts have sure been a lot of fun to work with! But in between the scout quilts I have been finishing customer quilts. I finished this one last week and the customer came to pick it up. She was super happy with the results and left me a gorgeous peacock quilt to work on!
I have been getting a lot of calls from new clients, looks like word is getting out! I had a nice lady bring me the following two small wall hangings. It is not uncommon to audition a new quilter to see if you like her work. That is what these two quilts are, audition pieces!
I quilted this with a sand colored thread with seashells. I am sure she will like it.
This little quilt (it only measures 20 x 24) was a bit of a challenge, the sashing was a little off so I had to finagle it a bit, plus she wanted minimal stitching in the blocks (I was not allowed to stitch over any of the logo) So a nice smoky swirl in the sashing repeated in the dark blue of the t-shirt material along with stitch in ditch to combat some raised seams and I think it turned out pretty well!

I am thrilled with how busy I have become, I have been working on increasing my business so that when I am ready to go full time (in the very close future) I will have a good clientele built up!

As always, thanks for stopping by and happy quilting!

"How much will it cost to quilt my quilt?"

One of the very first questions customers ask, both new and old is "how much will it cost for you to quilt my quilt" Now this question is sometimes very easy to answer and sometime much more difficult the biggest reason is most quilting prices are determined by several factors.
The 1st being the size of your quilt, is it a baby quilt or a king size? Those are going to add up to two very different prices just based on the real-estate involved. Another determining factor is what kind of quilting is involved. do you customer want a basic all over meander? Or do you want some serious custom quilting? Do you want feathers? Curves? Multiple color changes? Or will a simple pantograph/all over design suit your needs? All of these things need to be discussed with your longarm quilter before she (or he) can quote you a price!

So with that in mind I have been working on an easy way to answer that question. Or at least partially. So now if someone asks me how much it will be to quilt their quilt I can give them a base line for a simple all over meander or a very basic pantograph. I have a small selection of super easy and fast pantos that allow me to keep the over all price down.

Now all my client needs to know is the length of their quilt. That's it! Oh and if they want Meander, Loops or a simple panto.

So, this is the pricing structure... let me know what you think!

Whats on the frame today.....

In between the Eagle Scout quilts I have been working on my customer quilts. On my frame today.... This lovely Hunters Star!

Quilting some formal feathers in the large yellow triangles, The green and pink stars will get a swirly star design. Same with the border.
The large black center star (you can't see it yet, will have the same swirl design as design on the left. All in all I am loving this quilt!

Thanks for taking a look.
Happy quilting to you!
Ginny

Quilting for Charity, Garrett's Eagle Scout Project.

It feels like forever since I have updated! I have been working hard on Garrett's quilts for his Eagle Scout project, he is donating at least 10 quilts to our local cancer center. He has gotten all of the tops returned, and the quilting is going well, 8 down and 4 to go! He was brave and actually quilted a couple of them!

These are Garrett's quilts.....

He tried to get a variety of fabrics, both feminine, and masculine. I think he did well.
One of the quilts on the frame, for some reason I really like how bright and cheery this quilt is.
This one though it my favorite so far, so soothing.

Garrett showing the quilts at Quilt Party, next month we will be taking photos of Garrett, the quilts and all of the ladies who did the piece work, stay tuned!
